The World's Largest Women's Patriotic Service Organization. For nearly a century, The American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) has been dedicated to serving, assisting, and meeting the needs of our nation's veterans, military, and their families, both domestically and internationally.
The ALA is the largest patriotic service organization globally, affiliated with The American Legion and chartered by Congress in 1920. With volunteer representation in all 174 VA Medical Centers, our nearly one million members in almost 8,000 local communities in the USA and abroad form a diverse pool of talent, ability, and leadership experience.
The ALA proudly promotes patriotic youth programs, including the renowned American Legion Auxiliary Girls State and Girls Nation programs held regionally and nationally. Additionally, the ALA engages in educational initiatives, contests, and scholarships within local school systems.
