American Legion Riders

Riding with Purpose

Mission Statement:

We are a group of motorcycle enthusiasts who are passionate about helping area Veterans and Children organizations.

Chapters and Charitable Work:

Over 110,000 American Legion Riders meet in chapters, numbering over 2,000 across the U.S. and in at least three foreign countries, are renowned for their impactful charitable efforts. With a focus on local children's hospitals, schools, veterans' homes, honor flights, severely wounded service members, and scholarships, we have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. Our commitment extends to supporting wounded warriors, conducting cross-country fundraising events, and participating in statewide Legacy Runs for American Legion scholarship programs.

Grassroots Tradition:

True to the Legion's grassroots tradition, each chapter manages its programs at the post level, fostering the birth of innovative ideas. Our Riders actively engage in various projects and events, including local charity events, motorcycle runs for numerous charities, memorial ceremonies, community parades, and the annual cross-country American Legion Legacy Run.

Projects and Events:

American Legion Riders are involved in a wide range of projects and events, such as:

  • Local charity events supporting The American Legion and communities
  • Motorcycle runs benefiting numerous charities
  • Memorial ceremonies and community parades
  • Annual American Legion Legacy Run from Indianapolis to the national convention city
  • Honoring fallen military men and women, safeguarding the sanctity of their funerals
  • Escorting military units to departure airfields and welcoming them home
  • Participation in Wreaths Across America and Golden Drive for homeless children
  • Fundraising for local Veterans Honor Flight, VA hospitals, women and children centers, schools, and more.

National Program Guidelines

The American Legion Riders, recognized as a National Program, adhere to Resolution 5, approved by the National Executive Committee in May 2021. Key guidelines include:

  • Membership limited to current members of The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, or Sons of The American Legion.
  • Members must own and maintain a motorcycle, as required by state law.
  • Continued membership for those unable to own a motorcycle for valid reasons.
  • Upholding The American Legion's image and principles.
  • Avoiding the perception of being a motorcycle club (MC) or biker club.
  • Exclusive use of the copyrighted American Legion Rider logo.
  • Compliance with motorcycle laws and no use of unauthorized rockers with the ALR patch.
  • Sponsoring organizations review liability insurance for special riding events.
  • Adherence to The American Legion Constitution and By-laws.
  • Inclusion and Family-Oriented Spirit

American Legion Riders are not a motorcycle club; we are family-oriented, mirroring our parent organization: the American Legion. We welcome riders of all brands and styles, emphasizing unity and a commitment to service. While a motorcycle capable of highway speeds is necessary for some rides, our doors are open to all who share our passion for making a positive impact.

Join us in the spirit of service, camaraderie, and the thrill of the open road!
